Electricity bill: breakdown of the bill

The contents of the electricity bill are defined in the law. According to law, the bill must include a summary showing the following:

  • electricity distribution and the amounts charged for it;
  • the sum total of charges for electricity distribution, and
  • electricity tax and value added tax.

The information and estimates concerning the price of electricity distribution must be provided to the end user at the correct time and in a format that is easy to understand. On the bills sent to consumers, the distribution system operator must provide information on how to submit customer complaints, and it must also include information about dispute settlement procedures available to consumers on bills aimed at consumers.

The electricity bill contains a lot of information. You can find some information about the bill breakdown on our website. Information on how to read your bill is also available online: www.ksoy.fi/asiakaspalvelu/laskutus/sahkolaskun-lukuohje/ (in Finnish only) (The link opens in a new window.).

Your right to switch and compare electricity retailers

You can buy electricity from an electricity supplier of your choice. Draw up an electricity contract by contacting them. The electricity supplier will notify the distribution system operator of the new contract.

Production subsidies are not charged to electricity users

Some of KSOY’s wind power production receives production subsidy, i.e. it is part of the so-called feed-in tariff scheme. This subsidy comes directly from the State and is not financed with fees shown on the electricity bill.
